Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, ( F) I will pay back four times the amount.” ( G)ĩ Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. ( C)ĥ When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig ( B) tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. Lazarus, he said, sadly, The rich man says you must go away. He is dirty and sick, and he cannot sit at my gate. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. The rich man stood up and wrapped his beautiful purple robe tighter around him. Your brothers can read what they wrote.’ģ0 “The rich man replied, ‘No, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.’ģ1 “But Abraham said, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they won’t be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.19 Jesus entered Jericho ( A) and was passing through. 28 For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don’t end up in this place of torment.’Ģ9 “But Abraham said, ‘Moses and the prophets have warned them. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.’Ģ7 “Then the rich man said, ‘Please, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father’s home. 26 And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. When Martha heard that Jesus had come, she rushed to meet him. Crowds of people had come to comfort Martha and Mary. When Jesus arrived at Bethany, Lazarus had already been buried for four days. Now a certain (man) was sick, (named) Lazarus, of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha. So Jesus told them clearly: ‘Lazarus has died.’. 3 So the sisters sent word to Him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick. The apostles said: ‘If Lazarus is asleep, that will help him to get well.’. 2 And it was the Mary who anointed the Lord with aointment, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. I am in anguish in these flames.’Ģ5 “But Abraham said to him, ‘Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. 11 Now a certain man was sick: Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.Ģ4 “The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. The sisters tell Jesus that Laazarus is sick, they tell him ‘he whom thou lovest is sick’ (John 11:2). Lazarus of Bethany is the brother of Mary and Martha and also a follower of Jesus Christ. The story is told by John and covers chapter 11, verses 1-45. The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and he went to the place of the dead. The story of Lazarus is one of miracles, faith, and trusting in God. Lazarus had died and was in his tomb for 4 days at this point. The Rich Man and Lazarus - There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 21 As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man’s table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.Ģ2 “Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the heavenly banquet.
